Frequently asked questions.
How is functional medicine different from conventional care?
Functional medicine is a patient-centered, science-based approach to healthcare that aims to identify and address the root causes of illness—rather than simply managing symptoms. In my practice, this means taking the time to understand each patient’s goals, health history, and lifestyle, along with in-depth diagnostic testing, to create a personalized and actionable treatment plan.
Do I still need a PCP?
While it’s not required to have a primary care provider (PCP) to work with me, I do recommend maintaining a relationship with one. My role is to complement your existing care—I focus on root-cause exploration and long-term wellness. I can help with many routine screenings and may be more accessible than a traditional PCP for certain concerns, though I don’t provide guaranteed urgent care. A PCP can also help ensure access to services that require insurance-based referrals or in-network documentation.
Do you accept insurance?
No, but I can provide a superbill after your visit. It includes all the necessary information for you to submit a claim to your insurance provider for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Please note that reimbursement depends on your specific plan and coverage.
What’s the advantage of working with you compared to a traditional PCP?
My practice is a good fit for people who are motivated to improve their overall health and open to making sustainable changes in areas such as diet, exercise, and sleep. I focus on preventive health—not just managing symptoms—and I love working with curious patients. If I don’t have the answer to your question, I’ll make it a priority to find it and follow up.
Because I maintain a small patient panel and avoid back-to-back scheduling, appointments stay on schedule! I’m also available between visits via email for ongoing support and questions.
This is not an alternative or holistic clinic—I believe in the value of both traditional medicine and lifestyle-based care. I prescribe medications when appropriate, recommend supplements when useful, and refer out only when truly necessary.
If you already have excellent primary care and have extensively explored nutrition, supplements, and lifestyle interventions on your own, my care model may not offer much additional value. I’m best suited to work with patients who are seeking in-depth support and guidance they haven’t yet been able to find elsewhere.
How do I communicate with you between visits?
I’m available via email for questions, clarification, or updates between appointments. I don’t guarantee urgent or same-day responses, but I strive to be responsive and supportive outside of scheduled visits. For emergencies or urgent concerns, I always recommend contacting your PCP or going to the nearest urgent care or ER.
Can you order labs or imaging?
Yes, I can order most conventional labs and imaging studies, and I also use specialty tests when appropriate (e.g., gut health, nutrient panels, hormone testing). If you're using insurance, I may recommend that your PCP place the order to ensure coverage.
Do you offer virtual visits?
Yes, I offer both in-person and virtual visits. When possible, I prefer the initial visit to be in person. However, some appointments—like follow-ups or lab reviews—can easily be done remotely.
Please note: I am licensed to practice medicine in Georgia, so patients must be physically located in Georgia at the time of any virtual visit.
